Kiir attends ICGLR in Luanda

The President Salva Kiir has left for Angola to attend an upcoming summit of the Heads of States.

Ministers of Defense from the Great Lakes Region had earlier met in the country’s capital to discuss crises in the region.

The summit is expected to commence today.

They include; amongst others, terrorism, Burundi coup attempt and South Sudan crisis.

“….the crisis of Burundi which has a similar nature with what is going on in South Sudan, and also the militants in Central Africa Republic ….will constitute the agenda of this important summit in the region,” said Awan Gol Riak, Minister in the office of the President.

The Summit of the heads of states is expected to find recommendations to the issues.

Mr. Awan said the President will also discuss bilateral issues his counterparts.

Angola, under President José Eduardo dos Santos, chairs the two-year term of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, ICGLR, since January 2014.
