The Commissioner of Yei River County says construction of Kanjoro Bridge will begin soon following the arrival of construction materials at the site.
Kanjoro Bridge is a key link connecting residents in Kanjoro and surrounding residential areas south of Yei town centre to the rest of the town.
During the rainy season, overflowing waters often cut off communities, forcing children, elderly people, and other vulnerable residents to risk dangerous crossings to access schools, health facilities, and markets.
Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo said in a statement that preparations are now in the final stages ahead of the construction works.
He confirmed that six truckloads of river sand, six truckloads of aggregates, and several loads of hardcore stones have already been delivered to the project site.
He added that eight additional truckloads of construction materials are expected before work begins.
Commissioner Malimbo, accompanied by the State Revenue Director, visited the site to inspect the materials and assess preparedness for the project.
He said once completed, Kanjoro Bridge will improve transportation, strengthen links between communities, facilitate trade, and reduce the dangers residents face when crossing the river during heavy rains.
