The Juba City Council has ordered closure of restaurants that operate in open places as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of cholera disease.
Last Friday, the Mayor of Juba City Council, Christopher Sarafino Wani issued a local order stopping vendors from selling food in open places.
“We’re doing it from health point of view because we want to help people from Cholera,” Martin Simon, spokesperson of Juba City Council told Eye Radio.
“But for the businesspeople, [they] are looking at their interests without paying regards to…the ongoing situation.”
Mr. Martin said the cracking down on the small businesses does not mean that the City Council is against any businessperson.
“We’re not against their business, let them improve their standard of their [services] if they are really serious businesspeople.”
Last Friday the national minister of health declare the outbreak of cholera in south Sudan where by many people were affected in different parts of Juba.
