A middle-aged man has been arrested in Jonglei State capital Bor, after being accused of killing his lactating wife using an ‘injectable’ following a land dispute.

The state police commissioner Major General Elia Costa said suspect Kur Makuei, a 46-year-old medic, allegedly injected his wife Abuk Dier Deng, 27, with an unknown substance, leading to her death on Tuesday last week.

“The man (suspect) is a doctor. He injected his wife with medicine, so the medicine resulted in the death of that woman who is his wife. She is a 27-year-old housewife who has four kids,” said Costa.

The police official said preliminary investigations showed the couple had disagreed over a piece of land.

The suspect had allegedly sold out his wife’s plot without seeking for the woman’s consent, an allegation that the Bor police are yet to ascertain.

“We opened a case against him for murder and he is under investigation now. We want to collect the information first to transmit the case to the court.”

Elia said the deceased left behind four children including a two-month-old baby who is now being taken care of by her relatives.
