IGAD urges stakeholders to prepare for next round of talks

The IGAD has urged the stakeholders to the peace talks to prepare for the next phase of the talks and engage firmly, in order to meet the deadline on the formation of an interim government within 60 days.

During the adjournment, IGAD Special Envoys shall continue to undertake broad consultations with South Sudanese stakeholders.

In a statement issued today, IGAD will also consult with the leaders of the IGAD region, the African Union, the United Nations Security Council and other friends and partners of South Sudan.

The stakeholders are expected to consult and provide feedback on the draft framework for political negotiations.

IGAD also it said it will follow up the full operationalization of the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism during the recess of the talks.
