The Burundi Community in South Sudan is demanding justice for the killing of a man by his landlord in Gumbo Sherikat, East of the capital Juba last week.

The victim is 25-year-old Munezero Robert, a Burundian national working as a Boda-boda driver in the area.

Habiyaremye Richard, who is the Public Relations Officer of the Burundi Community in Juba says the deceased was attacked by his landlord who is named only as Ladule, after he came home late on Wednesday night.

“When our national came home, he was hit by Ladule with panga on his head seriously saying why this man come to my house,” the community leader narrated.

Richard said that Robert was taken to the hospital for treatment where he died the next day, on Thursday.
The community leader alleged that the suspect identified as Ladule escaped from custody after he was arrested.

He says the general prosecutor issued another warrant of arrest, but the police delayed the arrest due to the Christmas holiday.

“We took him to hospital where he died on Thursday. The polie arrested Ladule but after some minutes we saw him out of the police station.”

“We reported the matter to the General prosecutor, who then issued a warrant of arrest, but the police say because of Christmas and the weekend holiday we must wait until Monday today, and up to now we are still waiting.”

Habiyaremye Richard says the body of his countryman has been in the mortuary since Thursday, waiting for the police investigation before it is taken to Burundi.

He says the death happened due to severe bleeding in the head

When contacted, Police Spokesperson Daniel Justin said he is aware about the incident. He said police officers are hunting for the suspected culprit.
