The government says a report by UN Human Rights office on mass atrocities caused by the SPLA is biased.

The report shows that the SPLA and allied forces deliberate targeting of civilian for killing, rape and pillage.

UN says it was investigated by a team sent by high commissioner to South Sudan from October 2015 to January 2016, in accordance with a resolution of human rights council in July 2015.

According to the report, UN says the scale of sexual violence was shocking in five months last year – from April to September.

It recorded more than 1,300 cases of rape in former Unity state alone.

“This is biased report aimed at tarnishing the image of the government,” said Ateny Wek, Presidential Press Secretary.

“There’s no any reason whatsoever that the government soldiers would kill the very civilian in which they are constitutionally well-place to protect.”

Mr Ateny says the government is going to carry out an investigation on the report.
