The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it regrets incidents of harassment on diplomatic premises and vehicles that occurred during the annual end-of-year security search in Juba on December 20, 2024.
In a press statement, the foreign ministry said the “regrettable and isolated incidents” were due to errors and have been addressed swiftly by the respective authorities.
The statement did not go into detail about which diplomatic premises and vehicles were illegally searched and in which area of the city.
“We wish to reaffirm that our security forces operate under clear and well-established directives that strictly prohibit the search of diplomatic premises and vehicles, in full compliance with the diplomatic immunities and privileges as outlined by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961),” it said.
The Ministry further said it remains fully committed to monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety and security of all diplomatic personnel, premises, and vehicles.
It further pledged to uphold the principles governing diplomatic relations and practices.
