Traffic Police say five people were killed and 93 others injured in road accidents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in Juba City, despite an overall improvement in road safety compared to the same period last year.

The Traffic Police Spokesperson, Colonel Chol Lual Geng, said the reduction in accidents was due to intensified vehicle inspections, increased patrols, and better cooperation between traffic officers and road users.

He also attributed the improvement to growing public respect for traffic laws.

Speaking on SSBC, Colonel Chol said all five deaths occurred on December 25th, December 31st, and January 1st, while dozens of people were injured during the festive period.

“In the last three days, I mentioned that in the last three days, on the 25th, 31st and 1st, we lost five dear souls. This is what was lost during the period of Christmas and New Year.

“And the total damage is 93 as a result of the related consequences of the past incident. The January report for the last three days that I mentioned is now the period of Christmas and New Year only. this is what happened in the report,” he said.

Colonel Chol said the report only covers the Christmas and New Year period and urged motorists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians to maintain the same positive behaviour throughout 2026 to further reduce road accidents and save lives.
