The Minister of Petroleum has urged the newly appointed finance minister to block alleged market lobbyists, saying the individuals have taken over the ministry.

Puot Kang Chol described the unnamed market cartels as individuals specialized in lobbying for the appointment of officials to top financial and economic institutions.

Addressing the new Finance Minister Awow Daniel Chuang, Kang urges him to be watchful of the conmen and block them from the ministry.

“The Ministry of Finance and the real ministers are people that we don’t know their names. They are in the market,” said the petroleum minister.

“They even determine who will be the Minister of Finance before you are even appointed. They even talk about it; they know it better.”

He said the alleged cartels often blackmail sitting ministers into doing business with the government.

According to him, the powerful individuals often resort to threats when their interests are not fulfilled.

“They will all come tomorrow and say we brought you, but they didn’t bring you, you are brought by God and the president that God allowed to sign your paper.”

“They did not, but tomorrow they will also say we brought you, and in return, you must pay them.”

“I would genuinely request you pay what belongs to an individual when it is their right, but please don’t pay what does not belong to me, because it’s not mine.”

“They will also claim the powers, and if they have removed you, they didn’t remove you from South Sudan,” he said.
