The Ministerial Economic Cluster has approved the release of 72 billion South Sudan Pounds to support preparations for the upcoming farming season, as part of a three-month action plan for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
A post on the official page of the office of Vice President and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster said the decision was reached during the Cluster’s ordinary sitting held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, chaired by Prof. James Wani Igga.
The funding request was presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, and will be tabled before the Council of Ministers for final approval.
During the meeting, the Economic Cluster also listened to a briefing by the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Michael Chanjiek Geay, who presented key priority areas and activities of his ministry.
In a press statement, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Lily Albino Akol, said the Cluster further passed a report presented by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol, which focused on economic recovery, fiscal discipline, and macro-economic stabilization.
Hon. Lily Akol added that the meeting successfully passed three agenda items and underscored the importance of the Economic Cluster’s deliberations in strengthening the country’s economic management and food security efforts.
