Two people have died from meningitis in the country after seven suspected cases were reported last week, an official has said.

The press secretary of the Kajo-keji County commissioner, Amule Charles, said the people have been admitted at Kajo-keji Civil Hospital.

Four of them have already been discharged, after getting drug prescriptions, though they have not been declared free from meningitis.

He confirmed that the Ministry of Health in collaboration with several medical organizations has provided meningitis drugs and vaccines in the county.

Mr. Amule told Eye Radio that the organizations are raising awareness to residents of the area.

“In this mission, they will provide Education session to lead us about meningitis. More so, they will also provide fresher training to help staff who are responsible for sample collection of any suspected cases of meningitis in Kajo-keji Civil Hospital”, Amule said.

Cases of meningitis seem to be on the rise in the country.

Last week, the World Health Organization had reported 14 suspected cases of meningitis in Budi County of Eastern Equatoria state, and Kajo-Keji County of Central Equatoria state.

Last month, Ugandan health authorities had also reported 31 suspected cases, with no death in refugee camps hosting South Sudanese, although the Uganda Red Cross Society denied the reports.
