Civil groups call for establishment of hybrid court

Author : | Published: Thursday, February 18, 2016

Civil society organizations are urging the African Union to expedite the establishment of the Hybrid Court for South Sudan as part of the implementation of the Peace Agreement.

The call was made during a workshop organized by the Civil Society’s Transitional Justice Working Group in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, UNDP, in Juba on Wednesday.

Chapter Five of the Peace Agreement stipulates that during the Transitional Period, there shall be an independent hybrid judicial court for South Sudan established by the African Union.

The court will investigate and prosecute individuals bearing the responsibility for committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide or any other serious crimes under international laws, which are relevant to South Sudan.
