Traditional chiefs in Central Equatoria will now receive monthly salaries from the state government, the state Information Minister has announced.

According to Mabe Andruga, the paramount chiefs will earn 12,000 pounds, 11,000 pounds for the head chiefs, 8,000 pounds for the executive chiefs and 7,000 pounds for sub-chiefs.

Andruga Saberio briefed the media houses about the Emolument of the local chiefs in the State on Monday.

“Tentative calculation according to this Memo which was tabled by the Minister of Local Government, they have put a figure of at least 12,000 pounds for the Paramount Chief, this is a basic pay,” Andruga said.

“There could be other motivations also, we never put the cost of their uniform, mobility and other things, those ones are to be included.

“They only need these things because this involves the two Ministries, Ministry of Local Government and Finance together with the Public Service that gave them this calculation.”
