Policeman accused of adultery takes own life

Police in Yirol East of Lakes State are investigating a prison director, a woman, and a complainant after a policeman accused of adultery took his own life in a detention facility.

Private Taban Achiek was detained last week after a man accused him of committing adultery with his wife.

However, after committing suicide, it was later discovered that he had fathered a child with the woman but they were later separated.

“The deceased was accused of committing adultery, but it became clear later that this woman had been impregnated by him before, and they had a child, and they were separated from each other,

“This woman was later married to another person, and when the girl [their daughter] grew up, he wanted to register her in his name,” said Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, Lakes State’s police spokesperson.

Recently,  late Achiek reportedly wanted to process a birth certificate for his daughter bearing his name.

But this resulted in a misunderstanding with his ex-girlfriend’s husband who accused both of them of having a love affair, leading to his arrest.

“The mother said that she would not let her daughter go alone, and this matter caused problems for the woman with her husband, and her husband opened a criminal report accusing his wife and her ex-boyfriend of adultery,” said officer mabor.

While in detention, Achiek tore a blanket he was sleeping one and hanged himself on Wednesday night.

“He was arrested and brought to prison. So, he cut the blanket he was sleeping on in two halves and used it to hang himself.”

The police spokesperson says the prison director, the woman and her husband are under investigation.

“We are currently investigating with the director in charge of the prison, as well as the woman and the complainant who is her husband.”
