The Central Equatoria Legislature has given the Finance Minister a week to appear for questioning over the illegal sale of government plots in exchange for cars and money.

In a document dated March 8th, Minister Viana Kakuli Aggrey wrote a letter requesting authorization to exchange the ministry’s plot No 64, block AXIII at Hai Malakal with vehicle and service supplies.

Kakuli stated that the current economic crises required the ministry to offer the land to a partner to enable the ministry to continue rendering services to the public.

According to the document seen by Eye Radio, the Minister of Finance said if the request was approved, the plot would be handed over to the Quick Global Logistics Company Limited.

In return, the company will supply the ministry with 5 new Toyota Hardtop vehicles to enable the mobility of its staff to render services to the people.

In addition, the company will also pay 100,000 US dollars to support the construction of the ministry’s new office.

“The state minister honorable Viana Kakuli Aggrey further selected a company to do procurement of the vehicles and to submit the balance of the money to her ministry according to her letter and the balance will be used to construct the new ministry’s office.”

The document provoked the state lawmakers, prompting the legislature to summon the minister over the matter.

“I Uria Guya Emmanuel Umboya, do hereby raise and present this motion to summon the state Minister of Finance, Planning, and Investment to appear before this honorable August house to answer questions in regard to the above-stated plot,” declares motion mover, Uria Guya Emmanuel.

“Hon. Guya cited the constitution of Central Equatoria State 2012 as amended in 2015 and regulations 93 of the business conduct 28 amended 2012 to move the motion.

James Modi, the Chairperson Committee for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports at the state parliament confirmed the adoption of the motion that gave Minister Kakuli one week to appear for questioning.

“The rules and regulations of this house give an opportunity to the concerned person to appear in this house either in one week or two weeks’ time and therefore this is clarity regarding the concerned state minister of finance.”

Modi said the house also resolved to summon the state Minister of Cabinet Affairs to answer questions about the authorization of the land document.
