SSFA President Maduot pays visit to Upper Nile’s football clubs

The President of South Sudan Football Association  and his accompanying delegation on Friday paid a visit to Kaka Payam, Manyo County of Upper Nile State where he engaged with the newly established  sub-local football association seeking recognition of the football governing body.

In photos posted on the association’s official Facebook page,  hundreds of jubilant sport’s lovers and football players from different football clubs in Kaka on Friday welcomed Mr. Augustino Madout and his accompanying delegation.

He was accompanied by Mr. Thiong John, the Chairperson of the Players’ Status Committee, Mr. Sebit Dok, the Deputy Chairperson of the SSFA National Teams Committee,  and the President of Melut LFA, Mr. Deng Abdulrahaman.

President Augustino Madout’s visit to Kaka town is said to be ” part of his mission to engage with local football associations, and stakeholders across the nation to extend support for the greater good and prosperity of football in South Sudan.”

In a meeting with the administrator of Kaka Payam, Thomas Othow, Mr. Maduot urged the leadership of the County to render necessary support to the growth of football, pointing out the need for the allocation of enough land for football grounds.

He also called on the Commissioner to assist the Kaka Sub Local Football Association in promoting women’s football through sensitizing communities to give girls equal rights to participate in football.

In a separate meeting with the board members of Kaka Sub Local Football Association, The President of Kaka Sub LFA, Mohamed Budo reportedly urged the leadership of SSFA for the approval of the Kaka Sub Local Football Association  as a sub-local football association.

He also called on the delegation to offer capacity building of coaches, referees and administrators as well as asking provide football equipment Kaka Payam.

The delegation concluded its visit at Kaka playing ground by witnessing a friendly match between Al Merriekh FC Kaka and Salam FC Kaka – held  in recognition of what is decried as special and historical.

 

 

 

SSFA to inaugurate Juba stadium in June

The South Sudan Football Federation says it is working closely with concern stakeholders to fix the date for the inauguration of Juba stadium before mid-this year.

The construction of the FIFA Funded project that cost 5 million USD  began in 2019 and was supposed to be completed within 8 months – but this has delayed for a nearly five-years.

The process was marred with dispute between SSFA and JLFL over ownership of the playground, corruption allegation, and financial constraints to install certain feature within the premises.

At the weekend, a high-level delegation from FIFA, led by FIFA Director for Africa Members Associations, Gelson Fernandes, along with Davis Ndayisenga , head of the Kigali regional office, Silmara Sousa, overseeing English-speaking countries in Africa, and Abigail Haile michael from the Kigali regional office jetted into the country for final inspection of the facility.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Victor Lawrence Lual,  the Secretary General of South Sudan Association said the major work at the stadium is done as the constructing company is finalizing the installation of some smaller equipment and doing some minor corrections.

According to Lual, FIFA wants to see this project completed before June

“Basically, they come to see the work at Juba stadium because the construction has taken long. Its FIFA’s project, and FIFA is making sure that the stadium is opened before June this year.

Mr. Lual said “most of the work in the stadium are in the last stages, and small corrections’ are due to be finalized.”

He added that the SSFA is working closely with the relevant stakeholders to fix the date for the inauguration hopefully in June this year.

“Probably in June because everything is set waiting confirming the fie date from the construction company and relevant stakeholders.”

On his part,  FIFA Director for Africa Members Associations Gelson Fernandes commended the government’s efforts and assured world football governing body commitment to supporting SSFA pledging to ensure the stadium’s opening before June of this year.

 

 

 

 

 

El-Merriekh congratulates champions Jamus after appeal rejected

El-Merriekh FC Bentiu have conceded defeat and congratulated “dedicated” opponents Jamus FC Juba for winning the South Sudan National Cup.

This comes after the Higher Appeal Committee of the South Sudan Football Association rejected the club’s appeal against a decision that declared them losers of the disputed final of the cup tournament.

“On behalf of El Merriekh Football Club – Bentiu, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to you for your remarkable achievement in being crowned the champions of the 13th edition of the South Sudan Cup 2024,” the club said in a statement.

“Your dedication, perseverance, and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the tournament have been truly inspiring.”

On February 27, El-Merriekh appealed the decision of the SSFA Organizing Committee that crowned Jamus FC as champions, challenging the body to prove pitch invaders were El-Merriekh fans.

The club said the decision was unjust and made without thorough and proper investigation.

This comes after a match that started peacefully on a hot afternoon in February 25, at a tightly packed Buluk Training Center, ended 1:1 before Jamus and El-Meriekh headed to penalties.

During the shootout, El-Merriek had four kicks where they scored two goals and missed two, while Jamus scored three and were about to have the fourth kick, when fans ran to the field.

Chaos ensued as the football supporters stormed the field during a penalty shootout forcing the match to be abandoned without a winner.

The funs rioted and broke chairs, prompting police to fire shots in the air.

The organizing committee meeting pronounced El-Merrekh FC losers by a score of 2-0 and added that they will be deprived of the financial percentage of the match income, in accordance article 78 of SSFA general regulation 2012 amended 2019.

El-Merriekh FC appealed the rulingciting incorrect application of the laws and alleging that the pitch was first invaded by Jamus FC fans in celebration of the penalty missed by El-Merreikh player Dominic Abui.

Meanwhile, the High Appeal Committee dismissed El-Merriekh FC appeal describing as inadmissible and declared Jamus winners of the tournament.

“Despite El-Merreikh FC’s subsequent appeal, the Higher Appeals Committee, chaired by Lt. Gen. William Andaria Lado, has upheld the initial decision, deeming El-Merreikh FC’s appeal inadmissible,” it said.

El-Merriekh said in a statement on Thursday that it abides by the final decision of the SSFA High Appeal Committee.

“Your ability to overcome challenges with dignity and grace reflects the true spirit of sportsmanship. Your success serves as a shining example of what can be accomplished through determination and teamwork.”
