CAR: Unaccompanied S Sudanese minors need aid

The UNHCR says some unaccompanied South Sudanese children who fled the conflict are suffering at a camp in the Central African Republic, without clean water, health facilities and schools.

In a field report, the UN refugee agency says the presence of these minors among the refugees in Bambouti Refugee Camp is a big concern.

The head of the UNCHR in the Central African Republic, Lazare Kouassi Etien, says the agency identified more than 10 unaccompanied children during an assessment in May.

He said a fuller registration will be carried out among the refugees so that these children can be reunited with their family members as soon as the security improves here in South Sudan.

The UNHCHR says humanitarian agencies are facing difficulties in raising funds to meet even the basic needs of water, food, shelter, and emergency medical care for 2.4 million displaced South Sudanese.

It says that a joint appeal for more than 600 million US dollars by the agency and partners to assist South Sudanese refugees across the east and central African region remains is largely not funded.
