Authorities in Warrap State say calm has returned to the remote village of Waryieu, where a cattle-related clash left 16 dead and 13 others wounded on Saturday.

The state Information Minister said a cattle camp in the north of Twic County came under attack by unidentified armed men from the neighboring states.

Wol Mayom says a woman is among those killed during the attack.

“Currently, the security situation is calm in Warrap State in general, but for the incident that took place in Twic County. The attackers came from western Twic County and raided 400 cattle and sixteen people were killed including one woman,” he said.

However, Mayom says, the security situation in the area is now calm.

“The attackers were not clearly identified whether they are from the side of Abyei or Unity state. So, the local authorities informed us. We had tried to send the forces to the state headquarters to patrol and protect the situation and the people.”

Minister Mayom added that authorities in Abyei Administrative, Unity State, and Warrap States have resolved to investigate the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.
