Budget: Economist warns against allocating 70% to security

Author : | Published: Monday, July 6, 2015

If the largest part of the 2015-2016 financial budgets goes to security, then peace process will be delayed, an economist has warned.

Last week the Minister of finance presented to the parliament a budget of more than 10 billion pounds for the next fiscal year.

Dr. Jafar Kareem says the biggest percentage should be for peace, reconciliation and service delivery in the country.

“If more than 70% of the budget goes to rule of law and security, then defiantly you will be in problem of service delivery,” Dr Kareem argued.

“You will be having less expenditure for you to plan for service delivery. So, it looks like you are preparing for the war and dealing with security issues only.”

Much of the expenditure of the budget focuses on Security, salaries and other income generating activities.
