The Commissioner of Bor County has assured residents that security in Bor town has returned to normal following recent clashes in parts of Jonglei State that sparked fear and displacement.
Speaking to Eye Radio on Friday, Commissioner Ateny Pech said the situation in Bor is now calm after concerns arose when SPLA-IO forces advanced and took control of Waat and Yuai areas.
The development had briefly alarmed residents, who feared the fighting could spread toward Duk County and eventually Bor.
Commissioner Pech said the deployment of South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) helped stabilize the area, restoring confidence and allowing normal activities and business operations to resume in Bor town.
He added that the initial panic forced some residents to flee to neighboring areas, including Juba and Golier. However, he noted that many of those who left are now returning as fears of further advancement by armed forces have eased.
The commissioner called on all residents who fled during the unrest to return home, assuring them that Bor town is safe and secure.
“Now it is calm. There is no fear anymore, and businesses are going on normally,” Pech said.
“What happened in Yuai caused panic because people feared they could reach Duk and then Bor. But now there is no problem. Those who fled to Juba and Golier are starting to return. I want to inform the people of Bor County and Jonglei State that there is no fear. We are calm, and I am calling on those who left to come back home.”
