South Sudan has been selected to host the 20th Regional Nile Day Conference, scheduled to take place on February 22nd in Juba, according to Wednesday Economic Cluster meeting chaired by Vice President Prof. James Wani Igga.
According to a post on the Facebook page of the Office of the Vice President and Chairperson of Economic Cluster the meeting deliberated on key national economic and development priorities and adopted several resolutions presented by line ministries, particularly in the area of infrastructure development.
The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, James Mawich, briefed the meeting on ongoing and planned projects within the sector.
During the session, the minister noted that South Sudan has outstanding contributions to the Nile Basin Initiative for the 2025–2026 financial year.
Despite the arrears, the country was confirmed as host of the 20th Regional Nile Day celebration. South Sudan position underscores its strategic role within the Nile Basin framework.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hussein Abdulbagi Akol, requested the release of funds to support an upcoming agricultural conference and to facilitate preparations for the next agricultural season.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning outlined plans for a macroeconomic stabilization project aimed at reducing operational costs, enhancing revenue collection, and strengthening the national economy.
The meeting concluded with commitments to coordinate inter-ministerial efforts to ensure timely implementation of the resolutions adopted.
