Manchester United has parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim after just one year and two months at the helm, ending his tenure prematurely despite earlier assurances of long-term support.

In October last year, club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly promised that Amorim would be given at least 36 months to build and implement his vision at Old Trafford.

Speaking at the time, Ratcliffe said, “Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That is where I would be. Three years. Because football is not overnight.”

The statement had given the Portuguese coach a sense of stability and reassurance, suggesting that the club had full faith in his project and approach.

Many observers viewed it as a clear commitment to a long-term plan, allowing Amorim to shape the squad and implement his strategies without undue pressure.

However, recent results and the club’s performance have reportedly fallen short of expectations, leading to the decision to terminate Amorim’s contract.

His departure comes as a shock to some fans and analysts who believed the co-owner’s pledge would guarantee him more time. The move highlights the high-pressure environment of modern football, where assurances and long-term plans often give way to immediate results.
