Bor Mayor Nhial Majak addresses IDPs in Nimule - March 2, 2014.

Over 50,000 thousand people are said to be in dire need of food and shelter in Bor town, Jonglei state, according to the Mayor of Bor.

Nhial Majak Nhial said the humanitarian situation in the town is bad as more people return to the area.

He appeals to the national government to intervene.

“We have more people than last week actually,” said Mr Nhial, “and the humanitarian condition in the town is really very bad because we need food and non-food items to settle the population.”

Mr. Nhial says aid organizations are checking on the needs of the returnees in the area.

Mr. Nhial also called on humanitarian and health organizations to help those returning to Bor town with basic supplies.

Last week, the office of the First Lady, Ayen Mayardit donated food and non-food items to people affected by the conflict in Bor town.
