Five people have been shot dead in an ambush along the Kapoeta-Torit road, which connects Imatong and Namurnyang states.

Survivors and state officials say three others are still missing after the attacks in Kiyala and Idolo payams last evening.

The unknown gunmen first shot at a mini-bus in Kiyala, killing two people, and later at a land cruiser in Idolo, killing three.

The two vehicles were heading to Narmunyang State from Imatong.

“According to the information minister of Narmunyang State, they have barred all the employees from Imatong State from travelling to Kapoeta until the security is guaranteed by the state governments of both two sisterly states,” reported Eye Radio’s Ijoo Bosco.

The Police Commissioner in Imatong State, Edward Dimitri, says they have deployed forces along the road.

He said the forces managed to arrest one of the attackers, but drivers of the public service vehicles have stopped plying the route in fear of more killings.
