Police in Juba have arrested 50 suspects involved in a gang fight at a nightclub in the Atlabara residential area. The suspects include 27 females, among them a breastfeeding mother.

The operation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Operation Unit as part of a crackdown on youth violence and activities within entertainment venues.

Speaking to the state broadcaster, Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin noted that the government regards youth violence as a priority and has launched a program to address its causes.

As part of the initiative, law enforcement is partnering with the Ministry of Gender to conduct outreach and educate youth on the dangers of violence.

The police are coordinating with the Ministry of Health to address substance abuse and alcoholism among youth, which officials note impacts health.

Police confirmed that the Atlabara arrests are part of an effort across Juba to target gang activity, substance abuse, and criminal behavior in spaces.

“As a government, we consider this a program, and we have started it. We are working with the Ministry of Gender; we have a program to raise awareness among people about youth violence,” Major General Daniel Justin, Police Spokesperson.
