The government of Warrap State says at least 14 people have been killed in a deadly clash involving communities from Warrap and neighbouring Lakes State.
According to a statement issued by Warrap State Information Minister William Wol Mayom Bol, the violence erupted on Wednesday in the Thoony-door area involving Wun-adel and Wun-thuc communities of Tonj East County in Warrap State, and the Manuer clan of Rumbek North County in Lakes State.
The statement said six people from Warrap State and eight citizens from Lakes State were killed during the clashes.
The government of Warrap State condemned the violence and described the incident as “unfortunate,” saying the two neighbouring communities had been co-existing peacefully.
Authorities said the two state governments will conduct a joint investigation to establish the cause of the violence.
Warrap State also extended condolences to the bereaved families and appealed for calm to prevent further tensions.
The state government said the leadership under Governor Bol Wek Agoth remains committed to ensuring security for citizens and promoting peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities.
