Young chess players in Juba have demonstrated growing interest and competitive ability following the conclusion of a tournament that brought together players and chess enthusiasts.
The competition, organized by the Nile Rapid Chess Academy, was held to promote chess and give players an opportunity to improve their skills through organized competition.
The South Sudan Chess Federation announced Nicodemus Changoung Aler as the tournament winner, followed by Gong Thon Gong, Agook Madol Agook, Ajak Ngor Aluong, and Daniel Malong in the top five positions.
Federation President, Engineer Peter Mjok, says the level of competition shows the growing potential of chess players in South Sudan.
He commended the players and organizers, saying the tournament gave emerging talents an opportunity to gain experience and develop their competitive skills.
The tournament also brought together players from different backgrounds, demonstrating the potential of chess to promote interaction and unity among young people.
The Nile Rapid Chess Academy says it will continue organizing competitions and training programs aimed at identifying and developing young chess talents across South Sudan.
The organizers say regular competitions and training will be important in building a stronger pool of players who can represent South Sudan at national, regional and international chess events.
