Yei Civil Hospital in Yei River County has received a consignment of medicines from the National Ministry of Health, a development expected to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen medical services across the county’s five payams.

Health officials said the supplies will help address some of the area’s immediate medical needs.

However, the hospital’s Infection Prevention and Control Unit reported that healthcare services continue to depend heavily on humanitarian partners for essential supplies and preparedness activities.

Officials responsible for reproductive health services expressed concern over the lack of functioning health facilities in Tore Payam, where insecurity has disrupted service delivery and limited access to healthcare.

The medicine delivery comes as Yei River County Commissioner Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo, accompanied by County Executive Director John Hillary Konga, visited Yei Civil Hospital on Tuesday to assess healthcare services and discuss challenges facing the sector.

During the visit, health workers told county authorities that many medical personnel have gone nearly a year without salaries but continue to provide services to the population.

Staff members also cited delayed promotions, pending appointments, and limited resources as key challenges affecting healthcare delivery.

According to a post published on the Official Facebook Page of the Office of the Commissioner, County Executive Director John Hillary Konga acknowledged the difficulties facing health workers and encouraged them to continue serving the public while authorities work to address the challenges.

He said many government departments remain dependent on support from development partners as they await improvements in public financing.

Commissioner Malimbo said local authorities are working to improve security in affected areas, including Tore Payam, to facilitate the restoration and expansion of health services across the county.
