A civil society activist has appealed to President Salva Kiir to direct the allocation of a security performance gift to the organized forces to appreciate them for providing robust security during the holidays.

Some members of the public have applauded the organized forces for ensuring public safety and security during Christmas celebrations across the country.

Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization commended the organized forces for being ethical and ensuring a peaceful Christmas.

Yakani appeals to President Salva Kiir to give members of the security forces at least 1000 US dollars each to appreciate and encourage them for doing their job well.

“This time, the law enforcement agencies are not aggressive like in the previous years. Besides the fact that they were not paid money, they have been well disciplined,” he said while speaking to Eye Radio.

Yakani says there is an improvement in the mindset of law enforcement agencies compared to the previous years, and asked the president to give them a token of appreciation.

“This appeal goes directly to the office of the president. These members of law enforcement into their pockets. They have been standing on the roads, their families don’t have cakes, don’t have anything.”

“For me, the president must have a special Christmas and New Year security performance gift to the soldiers, and if you ask me how small it should be, if our MPs are able to get those dollars. 40 thousand before and then 18 thousand dollars, please give each soldier 1000 USD. Those should be normal soldiers.”

Last week, President Salva Kiir recognized and appreciated security personnel, and other front-line workers for their “diligent and relentless” efforts to serve the country, despite the challenges.
