Women ‘tired of being widows’

Women in Morobo County, Central Equatoria, are calling upon the government to sign the compromise peace agreement at the end of the 15 days it requested for consultations.

The chairlady of the County women, Hellen Abure, says peace is needed to end the suffering of the people in the country.

She says this can only be done if all parties to the conflict sign the IGAD proposal.

“We are tired of war; we are tired of being widows,” Ms Abure told Eye Radio. “We need sustainable peace that can make us sit with our husbands and educate our children.”

The Former Political Detainees and the SPLM in Opposition have signed the proposed Compromise Agreement.

The government says it first have to consult on some issues. The contentious provisions include power sharing, system of governance, demilitarization of Juba and reintegration of forces during the transitional period.
