The Director-General of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism says the government is planning to deploy forces along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo in order to stop poaching.

Major-General Philip Chol Majak says poaching is on the increase in areas between South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State and the DR Congo.

At least seventy-five elephants have been killed in South Sudan between the year 2012 and 2014, according to the government.

“Now, we are trying to organize our forces and deploy them in that area for the protection of our animals,” said Maj-Gen Chol.

Major-General Philip Chol said many poachers were arrested and they are yet to be taken to court in South Sudan.
