Central Equatoria State Minister of Health Joyce Bakwa Agole has appealed to humanitarian partners and development organizations to support internally displaced people affected by the recent South Sudan-Uganda border conflict.

Speaking during a visit to Liwolo Payam in Kejikeji County alongside Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Minister Agole said the number of displaced civilians living near the border area was overwhelming and required urgent assistance.

“We have seen that the number is so huge, especially the internally displaced persons living within the borderline,” Agole said.

The minister said the visit was aimed at assessing the situation of communities forced to leave their homes because of insecurity.

She warned that overcrowded displacement sites could increase the risk of disease outbreaks if immediate health support is not provided.

“On the health sector, I have seen there is need for support. I am calling and appealing to our friends and partners to join hands with the government of South Sudan and Central Equatoria State to extend support to these internally displaced persons,” she said.

Agole said displaced communities face heightened risks of pandemics and other health challenges due to limited access to essential services, calling for urgent intervention from health partners.

Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony also met with affected residents and urged them to remain calm and respect resolutions reached during joint discussions held in Arua, Uganda.

The governor encouraged communities to return to normal activities where possible, including farming, and to resettle in their counties and villages.

Authorities say continued support is needed to address the humanitarian and health needs of families affected by the border tensions.
