Upper Nile State Governor James Koang Chuol says he visited Ayongdiit, the spiritual leader of the Dongjol community in Akoka County, as part of efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the state.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Governor Koang said spiritual leaders play an important role in promoting peaceful coexistence and discouraging communities from resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands.

“When I went to the village of spiritual leader Dongjol, we talked about peace with him because spiritual leaders are influencers of peace in the area,” Koang said. “They are helping, especially in areas where people are always taking laws into their own hands.”

During the meeting, the governor said the spiritual leader raised concerns about the lack of basic services in Akoka County.

“He raised a lot of issues. The area of Akoka is suffering. There is no water, no schools, no hospital, and no roads,” Koang said.

The governor said the concerns highlighted the development challenges facing local communities and require attention from both state and national authorities.

“He raised issues which are the work of the state and even the national government. The roads are the work of the national government,” he said.

Governor Koang said his administration will continue engaging community and traditional leaders as part of broader efforts to promote peace and improve service delivery across Upper Nile State.
