Warrap State authorities have condemned two separate attacks that left three people dead and one injured in Twic and Tonj East counties, describing the incidents as criminal acts that threaten peace and coexistence in the state.
Speaking to Eye Radio on Monday, State Government Spokesperson Wol Mayom said suspected armed criminals from neighboring Unity State raided Lol-rieth in Twic County at about 2 a.m., killing two people, injuring one other, and stealing 66 head of cattle.
“Suspected armed criminals from neighbouring Unity State resulted in the tragic deaths of two people, wounded one and led to the theft of 66 head of cattle in Twic County,” Wol Mayom said.
He said a separate incident occurred the same day in Ngapagok Payam of Tonj East County, where an individual from the Luac-jang community was killed in an ambush while travelling from Romic to Tonj Town.
“An isolated attack took place on the same day in Ngapagok Payam in Tonj East County, resulting in the killing of one person identified as a son of the Luac-jang community,” he said.
Wol Mayom said authorities in Warrap and Unity states are coordinating efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the cattle raid in Twic County.
“Warrap State government is cooperating with Unity State officials to identify, apprehend and bring the armed criminals to justice,” he said.
He added that authorities in Tonj East County have already arrested six suspects in connection with the killing in Ngapagok Payam.
“Tonj East authorities have successfully apprehended six individuals in connection to the killing,” he said.
The spokesperson said Governor Amb. Bol Wek Agoth had conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and appealed to residents to remain calm.
“The state government appeals to the local youth and affected communities to exercise restraint and allow government authorities to handle the situation,” Wol Mayom said.
He added that the state government remains committed to preventing further violence and promoting peaceful coexistence within Warrap State and with neighboring states.
