The UN Secretary-General says the leader of the Ugandan rebel Lord’s Resistance Army Joseph Kony is possibly hiding in Kafia Kinji territory between south Darfur and Western Bahr El-Ghazal.

In a report to the UN Security Council, Ban Ki-moon said, credible sources suggest the L-R-A- leader Joseph Kony and senior LRA commanders have recently returned to seek safe haven in Sudanese-controlled areas.

This comes after numerous reports that the LRA leader has been killed by United States troops in the border between between South, Central and Sudan.

The Commissioner of Raja County, Hassan Jalad, said Kafia Kinji is still under the control of South Darfur authorities.

“… Kafia Kinji area is still under control of northern Sudan government. We  don’t have their administration here, we don’t have people there or sources to give us information about the Lord’s Resistance Army because if our citizens go there, they can be arrested and they are not allowed to enter there.’’ said Jalad.

The UN estimates that the forces of Kony now number an estimated 500 rebels at most, including women and children.

The report said that Kony moved to the enclave after the LRA participated in operations against Muslims in the Central African Republic alongside the Anti-Balaka Christian militia groups.

Last year the United States government announced that it was willing to pay a reward for as much as five million dollars for information leading to the capture or arrest of Joseph Kony, Okot Odhiambo, or Dominic Ongwen.
