The South Sudan Red Cross says it will carry out free HIV test during the annual commemoration of the International Day of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society.

During the occasion there will be a free blood donation to the patients in Juba Teaching Hospital.

The public relations and fundraising coordinator for South Sudan Red Cross, Marial Mayom, told Eye Radio that the occasion will also take place in Greater Bahr El-Ghazal and Greater Equatoria.

He said the occasion will not take place in Upper Nile region due to the on-going fighting there.

“…during the occasion we will have blood donation, VCT which is HIV testing and other activities. And also commemoration is taking place in the four states of Greater Bhar Ghazal and Equatoria accept Greater Upper Nile due to on going unrest in the Country.” he said.

Mr. Mayom added that South Sudan Red Cross is working to reunite families that were separated during the fighting in Upper Nile State.

The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day commemorates the birth of Henry Dunant the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
