Twic East County commissioner says residents of the county in Jonglei are living in fear of fighting.

Honorable Dau Akoi told Eye Radio that insecurity has forced communities to flee the area in search of safety.

He said insecurity has prompted hundreds of people to migrate to neighboring countries and states.

“The communities are panicking because of fear of the rebels, because the rebels are in Duk, which is the nearest border to Twic East. This makes the communities fear and panic and this has made people from the communities try to leave the area looking for safety. Some are crossing to the other side of the island of the swampy areas in Toch, and then others are trying to cross to Awerial, that is in Lakes State,” he said.

Commissioner Dau said Twic East County has seen a rise in cattle raiding and child abduction since the conflict started, which has increased tension in the area.
