The prime suspect in the killing of two local government administrators in Northern Bahr el Ghazal has turned himself in, after his wife and mother were held by West Kordofan police in the neighboring Sudan.

The Information Minister in Northern Bahr el Ghazal says the culprit identified as Fadhil Abdullai surrendered to the Sudanese police on Saturday after his wife and mother were detained.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Monday, William Anyuon confirmed that the culprit has confessed to killing the South Sudanese officials.

“They arrested him on Saturday. What happened was that before he was arrested, he tried to hide, but the government of that side (West Kordofan) went and arrested the family,” he said.

“So when the family was detained including the wife and the mother, he decided to come and hand himself to the Sudanese authority.”

Mr. Abdullai is currently accused of killing a Payam administrator and his deputy in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on January 13.

He opened fire on the administrators in Warguet Town near the Sudanese border and killed Santino Akech Angok and his deputy Peter Arol Yai.

The commissioner of Aweil East County Kiir Yor Lual, said two police officers in charge of a local police station were also wounded in the attack.

Minister Anyuon revealed that Governor Tong Akeen has requested his West Kordofan counterpart to have the suspect handed over to Aweil, to face justice.

“We are now requesting the state authorities there to respect the local agreement, and it is not the first time. Last time, a man who committed murder here was handed over to us.”
