The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), General Santino Deng Wol, says continued insecurity in Upper Nile Region has slowed development and access to basic services.

General Deng made the remarks on Saturday at the SSPDF Bilpam headquarters after meeting SSPDF officers from the Nuer community of Upper Nile Region.

The meeting focused on the security situation and efforts to restore lasting peace and stability.

During the meeting, the CDF said Upper Nile has fallen behind other parts of the country in health, education and infrastructure because of the prolonged conflict in the region.

He said continued insecurity has undermined government efforts to strengthen stability and deliver essential services.

“The future of Upper Nile depends on its own people,” General Deng said. “You must work hard for peace and stability instead of allowing conflict to destroy your land. Lasting peace will create opportunities for development, improve security, and enable displaced families to return home,” he added.

Addressing the officers, General Deng urged the people of Upper Nile Region to become ambassadors of peace instead of contributing to conflict.

He said it is the responsibility of the region’s communities to work together to preserve peace, protect their people and support efforts to end violence.

The CDF also called on SSPDF personnel from the region to remain united, disciplined and committed to their constitutional duties. He encouraged them to work closely with community leaders and local authorities to promote reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

The officers welcomed the CDF’s message and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting government efforts to restore security, strengthen unity and promote lasting peace across the Nuer areas of Upper Nile Region.
