The Media Authority has commended Eye Media/Eye Radio management for its proactive engagement with the regulator following a meeting between the two institutions on Thursday.
Eye Radio management, led by Chief Executive Officer Stephen Omiri Obur and Studio Manager James Kwaje, met with the Media Authority to discuss the renewal of operational media licenses.
The meeting follows a notice issued by the Authority last month on the renewal of media licenses.
According to a statement issued by the Media Authority after the meeting, Eye Radio used the discussions to explain the operational and financial challenges affecting its work and explore ways of meeting its licensing obligations.
The Media Authority, led by Managing Director Ajou Luol Akuei, welcomed the engagement and described it as a proactive approach to addressing licensing and compliance issues.
The meeting was also attended by Peter Jok, Acting Director General, Gabriel Mawien, Director of Data Management, and Gabriella Athiei, the Communication Officer.
The regulator said Eye Radio is the first media institution to engage with the Authority following the notice on license renewal.
The Authority encouraged other media organizations facing similar challenges to engage with the regulator and seek guidance.
It said dialogue and cooperation can help media institutions meet their legal obligations while continuing to operate professionally.
The Media Authority also acknowledged Eye Radio’s efforts to continue serving the public despite the economic challenges facing the media sector.
It said media institutions and regulators have a shared responsibility to ensure the public has access to accurate information, education and entertainment.
The two sides are expected to continue discussions on licensing and compliance.
