The South Sudan Opposition Alliance has called on the Joint Defense Broad leadership to appoint a joint committee to investigate the recent clashes in Upper Nile state.

The party also urged R-JMEC and CTSAM-VM to verify and investigate these violations and bring the perpetrators to book.

SSOA condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing violent confrontations between the SSPDF and SPLA-IO in greater Upper Nile.

It is calling on the conflicting parties to exercise maximum restraint and recommit themselves to the permanent ceasefire as stipulated in Article 2.1 of the R-ARCSS.

SSOA condemned the individuals who have been facilitating these defections between signatory parties to the revitalized peace agreement.

In a press statement signed by Josephine Lagu Yanga, the chairperson of SSOA called on the Joint Defense Board to investigate ceasefire violations.

“Urge the principles of the security arrangement to authorize the JDB leadership to conduct a joint trip to the affected areas and appoint a joint committee to investigate this incident,”  Josephine said in a statement.

SSOA urged IGAD and the guarantors to urgently convene a meeting of all parties to the agreement to evaluate the implementation matrix of the agreement.
