A civil society organization is urging the warring parties to resume the negotiations in order to end the conflict.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization says the parties to the conflict should return to Addis Ababa to continue with the talks and bring lasting peace to South Sudan.

The Executive Director of CEPO, Edmond Yakani, told Eye Radio’s Dawn show this morning that the people of South Sudan need peace so that they can cultivate.

“I would like to urge them that they should go back to the negotiation because we are in need of peace and stability,” said Mr Yakani.

“If there is stability, we will not have things such as cholera outbreak or the current instability along the roads in some areas, because some of the opportunists will take the advantage of current instability and attack people along the roads between different towns or areas.”

Last month, the latest round of peace talks for South Sudan was delayed after the government objected to President Salva Kiir and opposition chief Riek Machar being called ‘stupid’ by an official from the bloc mediating the talks.

In addition, the opposition said the negotiations were not inclusive enough.

There have been international calls to the resumption of the talks.

On Independence Day – July 9 – UN chief Ban Ki-Moon appealed to the two principals to return to the negotiation table.

“The Secretary-General… calls on them to live up to the expectations of their people, lay down their arms and return immediately to the negotiation table,” a UN statement read.
