South Sudan and Kenya have agreed to improving the movement of people, expanding employment opportunities, easing banking access for South Sudanese businesses, and advancing the Nadapal Road project.
Officials from the two countries made the commitments during high-level talks on implementing the East African Community integration agenda in Nairobi on Tuesday
The South Sudanese delegation included Undersecretary for Transport Paul Dhel Gum, Undersecretary for Information in the Ministry of ICT Arok Dut Arok, and Undersecretary in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs Kawaja Kau.
They met with Kenya’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community and ASAL Affairs, Dr. Caroline W. Karugu.
According to a statement shared by Undersecretary Paul Dhel Gum on Facebook, the discussions focused on challenges facing South Sudanese citizens and businesses in Kenya, particularly access to employment opportunities and banking services.
The officials also reviewed progress on the Nadapal Road project, describing it as a strategic infrastructure initiative expected to boost trade, transport and economic connectivity between the two neighbouring countries.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing Article 104 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, which provides for the free movement of persons, labour and services, as well as the rights of establishment and residence among member states.
The South Sudanese delegation said the commitment will deepen bilateral cooperation, promoting cross-border trade and accelerating regional integration.
