The director of the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation television, Adil Faris Mayat, has been released from a detention facility where he was held for 9 days.
This comes after rights groups, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, urged South Sudanese authorities to release him.
Mr Mayat confirmed to Eye Radio that he was freed last evening without charges.
Mr Mayat was reportedly detained by security apparatus on July 10. The circumstances surrounding his detention are still unclear.
But on Tuesday, the Committee to Protect Journalist quoted Mayat’s wife, Amira Alnahawi, as saying that she believed security agents arrested her husband for failing to air a live state of the nation speech by the President on July 9.
