Rumbek students reject new South Sudan sylabus

The fourth year students at Rumbek Secondary School in Lakes State have rejected the new South Sudan Curriculum, saying they want to continue their studies using the Sudanese curriculum.

The students walked out of classes saying they will not sit for any examinations set from the new South Sudan syllabus.

The Minister of Education in Lakes States, Dut Makoi, says the senior four students have been taught South Sudanese syllabus, but of late they rejected the new syllabus.

“Students of form four who are supposed to sit this year have decided not to attend classes simply because their request is not met,” Mr Dut told Eye Radio.

“They are requesting their administration that their concern is supposed to be voiced out and that they are supposed to be given a chance to sit for the Sudan School Certificate Examinations.”

Mr Dut says it is difficult to accept the demand of the students, because all the students in the country are going to sit for examinations using the new South Sudan curriculum.

He says state has been directed by the National Ministry of Education to use the authorized syllabus of South Sudan only.

The Deputy Minister of Education in the national government, Bol Makueng, denied the media report, saying there was no protest by students in Rumbek regarding the new curriculum.
