Proposal on creation of 10 counties in Juba submitted to COS

The Proposal for the creation of 10 new counties in Juba, Central Equatoria, has been submitted to the Council of States for discussions.

The discussion followed a directive issued by President Salva Kiir in June to create more counties in Central Equatoria State.

It is also based on a recommendation submitted by the State Governor, Clement Wani Konga, to the office of the President, last month.

The Council of States may agree to pass the proposal or they may reduce the number of counties or add more, said Gerald Francis, State Minister of Local Government.

Mr. Gerald Francis said most of the new counties will be located on the eastern part of Juba across the Nile.

Mr. Francis said the Council of States has passed the draft proposal to the second reading, which will be next week on Monday.
