The Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof John Akech, has pledged to improve staff benefits and student welfare as key priorities for 2026.
Prof Akech said his administration will focus on enhancing welfare for both staff and students, strengthening campus services, and accelerating institutional development.
In his New Year’s message to the University of Juba community, Prof Akech said the university will improve compensation packages, allowances, incentives, and comprehensive medical insurance for staff.
On student welfare, he pledged to expand access to affordable accommodation, upgrade health services, and create safer and more conducive learning environments.
He also announced plans to address poor sanitation and waste management on campus, ensure access to clean water, and restore reliable electricity and internet connectivity.
In addition, the vice chancellor said the university will advance digital services, including a fully digitized student portal, electronic results processing, and online admissions systems to improve efficiency and accessibility for both students and staff.
Prof Akech returned to the university last year following his reappointment.
In March 2024, he was relieved of his duties as vice chancellor during a leadership reshuffle at public universities ordered by President Salva Kiir.
He was replaced by Professor Robert Mayom Kuoirot Deng before being reappointed to the position last year.
