Finance Minister pledges support for Elections Commission preparations

JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) – The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, met with officials from the National Elections Commission (NEC) on Tuesday to discuss funding and preparations for the upcoming general elections.

The delegation, led by NEC Chairperson Prof. Abednego Akok Kachuol, visited the Ministry to brief the Minister on the electoral body’s progress.

Prof. Abednego noted that the meeting served as both a courtesy call to congratulate the Minister on his recent appointment and a strategic session regarding the December polls.

During the briefing, Prof. Abednego updated the Minister on the groundwork being laid for what will be South Sudan’s first general elections since independence. He emphasized that timely preparations are critical to meeting the electoral calendar.

In response, Minister Salvatore reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the democratic process. He pledged to provide the Commission with the necessary resources and financial support required to ensure a successful and transparent election later this year.
