President Kiir Woos Botswana’s Investments

President Salva Kiir is in Botswana to discuss bilateral relations between the Southern African country and South Sudan.

The President is expected to highlight the economic potential of South Sudan and areas in which Gaborone and Juba can cooperate.

In his welcoming speech, President Kiir said “South Sudan is a nation that has just started a journey of nation building; South Sudan was born out of war. We appreciate very much the partnership that exists between South Sudan and Botswana. We have been together during the struggle, and Botswana has really supported us.”

For his part, Botswanan President Ian Khama said his country will continue to support South Sudan’s efforts in improving service delivery.

“I have noted with admiration your government’s ongoing effort of making the cause of socio-economic development in your country in order to uplift the living standards of South Sudanese people. I wish to assure you of our commitment to continue supporting your efforts in your pursuit to deliver the promises of independence to the people of South Sudan.”

Presidents Kiir and Khama will hold talks over the next two days.

While in Gaborone, President Kiir will discuss with President Ian, areas of cooperation – especially on natural Resources management, Education, health and Animal Husbandry and the establishment of a diplomatic mission in Botswana.

President Kiir is accompanied by the ministers of: Foreign affairs, National Security, Health, Commerce and investment, General Education, and animal Resources.
